More Reliable Video Uploads

We're hardly veterans at video at this point, but thanks to everyone and their patience, we're learning everyday about making the Buzznet Video service more reliable.

In order to avoid those 6+ hours of processing time that some of you have been accustomed to, we've added feature that makes the original video format available immediately following a successful upload. In the background, we'll continue to encode to a more portable format, but you're video will be viewable in the native embedded player.

In addition to native player support, we've also added the option to download the original video, so those without embedded players can watch on their desktop with their player of choice.

If you have any problems with the new features, specifically, if a native format should be supported by the quicktime or wmv players, and we're not handling it correctly, drop me a message, or leave a comment here.

How about those 18+ hours of processing time?

Why cant i contact support? I really want to complain about the website overhaul. It sucks beyond belief. I looks like shit.Navigation sucks. Messages sent to support don't go anywhere and don't get sent. There is NOWHERE to give feed back that is obviously much needed. That is why I am bothering you. It seems like you work on this website, at least the video part. This is the only outlet that i could find to get through any support people. Im sorry for the obvious anger, but as buggy as buzznet was, it is just impossible now, AND it looks like hell. I really think that the patrons of this website really should be able to have SOME input before someone with a "great idea" trys to fix something that isn't broken.I know I am not the only buzznetter that feels this way. Your website will be loosing many faithful patrons, asx it is just to hard to watch something that you once cared immensly about get smeared down the toilet with new features that you do not want or need.

the processing time isn't going to take as long any more. since the orignal video is now available for viewing immediately.
clo: 03/10/2006 2:09 PM
do you think its better if I upload videos @ the size buzznet displays it?
steve: 03/10/2006 2:50 PM
Right now since people have access to the orignal you should probably just upload the size you want. buzznet will distort it a little in our interface, but the viewer can get the vid at your size if they want it.

Does this mean you can upload super8 footage? There's some incredible 9-11 eyewitness footage on InternetArchive, but I think it's all old VCR type stuff.
kevin: 03/10/2006 5:29 PM
As long as it can play in quicktime, wmv, or flash, then you can upload it.
cezarpena: 03/12/2006 4:43 PM
Ok, I just uploaded a .wmv video...ok so far but it seems that the wmv player is a TRIAL version here on buzznet so my video is playing up till half of it then freezes (theres also a message on the video that says all of this)...so it seems that uploading a .wmv is not worth the time...yet !!!
So we still have to convert the video to a macromedia file....
kevin: 03/12/2006 5:23 PM
We just moved to new servers over the weekend, and our licenses weren't transferred. I'm in the process of fixing this error, check back in a while, and the videos will be encoded without the trial edition. It may take a while for the caches to clear of the old video, so by tomorrow morning, all the videos will look right.
kevin: 03/12/2006 5:23 PM
In the meantime, we're now offering native video support, so if you want to see the video, you can click on 'play original'
cezarpena: 03/13/2006 4:53 PM
Cool...all is good now !!!! Nice work...
Now we can upload .wmv files with no problems.

*phew*

I had some trouble finding good .wmv to .flv converters. Most of them didnt suport WM9 files...
Right on fellas !!!

I recently have updated my blog and wanted to include the new video functionality. For some reason when i cut and paste the html code into the posting the video just appears as black on the blog. (http://noelburke.blogspot.com)

As Im writing to you I might as well ask is there any way to get a screenshot of your most current video to appear on the blog like we can with photos at the moment?
Thanks,
Noel

I like the link to download the original. I'm on dialup so can't stream the videos. Is there documentation anywhere that tells what formats it will accept as an upload? I tried to send an mpg, encoded with standard M$ encoder, and it told me it was the wrong file type. (half hour upload on dialup for 1.5 minute video). So I tried an avi, encoded with a standard M$ encoder. Same thing.. it told me it was the wrong file type. What formats and encoders will it accept?

The audio player could use that download link to.. and remove the "auto play". Since I can't stream it on dialup it kinda sucks to have it auto play when the player is loaded. While I'm on the subject of audio, since I don't seen an audio blog... why does it alter my file bitrate? I uploaded an 16kbps 11Khz mp3 that can stream on even the crappiest dialup connection. I tried to play it and it wouldn't stream without lots of rebuffers. Looked and it was twice the size of the file I had uploaded. Buzznet converted it to 32kbps 22Khz mono.. which is a bastard setting that most encoders don't even support. AND it stripped all mp3 TAGS from the file. So if I put a Copyright notice in my audio uploads you guys strip it out. That ain't cool.
steve: 03/19/2006 6:32 PM
duck. we're not doing that to be malicious. audio is still alpha right now.
dfduck: 03/19/2006 7:31 PM
I wasn't trying to insinuate you were stripping the tags out of malice. But especially if you add a download link for audio it would be nice to have the tags intact. I have copyrighted music for CD's I'm producing and other music that I've aquired copyrights to that I would like to post some of. I really wouldn't want it being upsampled, downsampled, stripped, or altered. Displaying tag info in the player would be pretty sweet.
